Mapperium: a fantasy map generator
Make a world of your own from a seed: a few continents or a sea of islands, smooth or rugged
coasts, rivers, mountains, forests, named seas, and kingdoms with names in real and invented tongues.
The same seed and settings always make the same world.
Then paint the realms as you like: click a region to found a nation, grow it region by region, name
it and give it a colour. Make a whole planet, a region of one (wide or tall), or a board of hexes or
squares for maps played in turns, and dress it in an era, from ancient parchment to a medieval
manuscript.
Your map is kept in this browser as you work. Download it as a picture (PNG), as an SVG that stays
sharp at any size, or as a web page of its own that can be zoomed and turned.
Sign in with an amCharts account (the same one as Chart Maker) to save your maps, open them on any
device, and publish them as a page to share or embed.
How to make a fantasy map
- A world is made from its seed: type one in World, or press New for another.
- Shape it with the sliders (land, islands, coast, continents, regions, kingdoms), as a whole planet or a region of one.
- For a game, pick Hexes or Squares under Grid: each tile becomes a region.
- Paint the realms: click a region to found a nation, click its neighbours to grow it, and rename it in the Nations list.
- Pick a style, add points, lines and labels, and download a PNG, an SVG or a web page.
Questions
Is it free? Yes, with no sign-up. Pictures carry a small "Made with amcharts.com" credit,
which a Pro account leaves out.
Does the same seed make the same world? Yes: the same seed and settings always make the
same world, kingdoms and names included.
Does changing rivers, mountains or forests change the world? No. Rivers, mountains,
forests, sea names and capitals come and go without moving the land, the kingdoms
or your nations.
Where do the names come from? They're made from the seed, in the style of a culture's
names: real ones (Norse, Persian, Japanese and more) or invented ones (Elven, Dwarven, Orcish). The name
lists and the name maker come from Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator (MIT License).
Where is my map kept? In this browser, with its undo history: even New map can be undone.

Which keys does it take? V select, B paint, M point,
L line, T label, E erase; Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) undo, Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z redo; Delete removes the
selected point, line or label; Enter or a double-click finishes a line; Esc stops adding to a nation; a
right-click on the map goes back to Select; Shift+click takes land from another nation; Alt+click picks the
nation a piece of land belongs to; hold Space to move the map while painting.
